Making Peace With Where You Are
By Lisa Claudia Briggs
If you are reading this, "where you are" has something to do
with your eating, your weight, your addictive compulsive
behaviors that leave you feeling out of control and longing
for relief.
What if just for this moment, you could find a way to make
peace with that? As you have heard me say, going into
resistance and trying to make changes from going head to
head in a power-play, with food or anything else, will not
do the trick. People who succeed in releasing addictions and
self-defeating habits typically do something very different.
They surrender.
I know you are reading this wanting to argue with me and
explain to me why that will not work for you- why you have
to "do" something to "make" this all go away. I know, I know
I hear you- don't forget, I am just like you!
Having learned very well what does not work, I want to offer
you support around making peace with all of this.
You are where you are- allowing yourself to own either the
number on the scale, the size pants you are in, or the
despair you feel, allows you to find peace and move towards
a solution that can serve you. Shame and self-hate will not.
You must find a way to access some compassion for the parts
of you, or the situations, or the behaviors that have taken
you to this place.
I have always believed that an addiction is an opportunity
to embark on a powerful, sacred journey towards healing. If
your weight and your eating are the vehicle that move you to
do that, then you have a chance to claim this situation for
your highest good. Or you could beat your self up some more-
for all the good THAT has done you.
What if all of the struggles with eating and your weight
were part of your "path"? Would you change how you looked at
all this? I believe it's a very helpful perspective- it
takes you out of self-pity, and victim-consciousness and
allows you to see it as the way that you will move through
challenges into a new and even enlightened place.
Your journey out of food addiction can be a fire-walk, for
sure, but what you find out about yourself and what you are
made of can serve you powerfully and deeply for the rest of
your life.
Your choice.
